It’s not a simple task in Sumter County – rounding up about 3,000 volunteers. Just ask the heads of any organization or club here, finding volunteers is never a simple matter. Typically, it’s the same people who seem always willing to offer their time.
But Bob Fussner II is determined that he will find the volunteers that are necessary.
Fussner is the president of Flags for Fallen Vets, a national project aimed at honoring all the heroes at rest at national cemeteries by placing an individual American flag on each gravesite of a veteran.
That’s a hefty challenge as the group sets its sights on the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell.
There are more than 120,000 veterans and spouses buried at the cemetery. That requires many flags and many volunteers.
But Fussner is hopeful that by spreading the word locally, the volunteers will come and help with the mission.
The placement date, the first of its kind at the Bushnell cemetery, is planned for 9 a.m. on Sunday, May 25.
Corporate support provides substantial assistance with the cost but there are individual opportunities to contribute to the cause and to donate time.
If you’d like more information about the operation, go to www.flagsforfallenvets.com or call 817-798-9414.

WHILE DALLAS-FORT WORTH AND HOUSTON ARE AWARE OF THIS I WAS CALLED WITH A MOST IMPORTANT QUESTION. WHERE DO THE FLAGS COME FROM.

LET ME ASSURE YOU EVERY FLAG PLACED IS AMERICAN MADE WITH AMERICAN MATERIALS AND ASSEMBLED IN AMERICA. WE WOULD NEVER PUT ANY TYPE OF FOREIGN MADE FLAG ON OUR VETERANS FINAL RESTING PLACE. PERIOD!!

The Houston National Cemetery is one of our new Cemeteries for Flag Placement in 2013. Individual Flags have NOT been placed on each Grave Site since 1999.

The Cemetery was established in 1964 and has over 80,000 Veterans and Spouses Interred, this number should rise to 85,000 by Memorial Day 2013. There are currently 4 Medal of Honor Recipients Interned here. Anyone wishing to  make a Donation or Volunteer for This Years Flag Placement and Removal please click the contact us link or the doanation link above. Our hope is to place Flags at the Houston National Cemeteries this year and beyond.
